Chair of the Board of Trustees

The Purcell Singers, one of London's leading chamber choirs, is seeking a new chair of trustees to lead their activities from September 2024 onward. The choir was formed in 1994, so the first concert for the chair will be a celebration of our 30th anniversary, scheduled for October.

The choir draws on talented and experienced singers to perform a varied repertoire of well-loved and lesser known works, and has also recorded commercially. We perform extensively around the capital, across the UK, and internationally.

Duties

As the choir finishes its 30th anniversary year, the trustee board is looking for a dynamic chair to take responsibility for the ongoing activities and strategic direction of the choir. This will involve planning and leading around 6-8 board meetings per year (held as a combination of in-person and online). Within and between meetings, the role involves liaising with the freelance Administrator and Events Manager, the Conductor, the Founding Musical Director, and other members of the trustee board to outline activities, maintain the ensembleโ€™s momentum in membership and high-quality performance, build collaborative relationships with external partners, and help further raise the profile of the choir within the UK and abroad.

The chair will be responsible for ensuring that the choir puts on a series of rewarding events and that it is pursuing its strategic priorities agreed by the board in its medium term strategic plan, revised annually. These particularly include further developing its extensive track record of commercial recording work; further building its relationship with regular performance partners such as John Rutter and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; building new relationships with performing partners; releasing more classical CD recordings; and taking part in national and international festivals.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to help shape the activities of a high-quality semi-professional London-based chamber choir. We have ambitious plans for the future and a unique selling point in our unrivalled experience in commercial recordings. We are looking for someone to help us build on these strengths.

Terms

This is a voluntary, unpaid role. Reasonable travel and other expenses may be paid with the agreement of trustees.

To apply

Applicants should send an up-to-date CV outlining their relevant experience and a covering letter outlining their interest and suitability for the role to Jessica Cooling, Purcell Singers Administrator and Events Manager, at admin@purcellsingers.org.

The closing date for applications is Friday 30th August 2024 at 5pm. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to meet the trustee board on an evening in mid-September, in central London.
